Email subscriptions and preferences

We store your email, subscription status, signup source, and consent records to deliver your requested emails. Choose email only; add pet types and ZIP / postal code for local discounts, samples, and offers; or add first and last name and a complete address for occasional mailed promotions. A physical address is not required for jokes or viewing offers. Choosing a tier does not request or guarantee a gift. Offers may feature partners or our own brands and help support the site financially.

We send offers ourselves. Your email is never sold or shared with advertising or offer partners. We do not send those partners your pet preferences or address details. Service providers, including email and shipping providers, may process the details needed to perform services for us. Information you provide on a partner website is covered by that partner’s policy.

Use our preference page to request a private email link and change your choice. Links expire after 30 minutes and can save changes once. We store a hash of each access token, its expiration, and its use status. Preference and admin pages do not load our site analytics or advertising pixels. Unsubscribing stops future jokes, additional offer emails, and mailed promotions.

Gifts, shipment history, and product safety

If we ship an item, we keep a separate fulfillment record with the campaign, recipient name and email, delivery address at shipment, product, supplier, batch or lot, shipping date, carrier, tracking or mailing reference, and relevant fulfillment notes. Email and address fingerprints help enforce campaign limits. These records remain separate from subscription preferences so unsubscribing or signing up again does not erase shipment history or reset gift eligibility.

Fulfillment records are restricted to authorized operations and retained as reasonably necessary for fulfillment, duplicate-claim prevention, product safety, and applicable recordkeeping obligations. If an item is recalled or has a safety issue, we may contact affected recipients about that item even if they have stopped marketing. A safety message is not permission to resume promotions. Contact us below about privacy or deletion requests.

Joke submissions

If you submit a joke, we store the joke, the email address you provide, your selected public credit preference, optional location, consent to the submission terms, moderation status, and related review records.

Your email address is not displayed publicly. If a submission is published, we display only the credit information you selected. You may choose anonymous credit instead.

Checking the optional email-marketing box on the submission form also subscribes that email address to AnimalJokes.com emails. Submitting a joke by itself does not subscribe you to marketing.

Security and abuse-prevention data

When a joke is submitted, we may temporarily record limited technical information associated with the request, including the IP address, a one-way keyed hash of the IP address, browser or user-agent information, request identifiers, and the date and time of the submission. We use this information for spam prevention, abuse detection, fraud prevention, service security, and investigation of credible threats or other serious misuse.

Raw IP addresses and related short-term request metadata are normally retained for up to 30 days. Unless a security hold applies, that short-term data is scheduled for removal after the retention period. A one-way keyed IP hash may be retained longer to identify patterns of repeated abuse without routinely retaining the raw IP address.

If a submission is reasonably connected to a credible threat, security incident, legal obligation, dispute, or lawful investigation, we may place the relevant record on a preservation hold. A hold can preserve the original submission and associated technical and moderation records beyond the normal retention period for as long as reasonably necessary. The hold is released when the preservation need ends.

Analytics and advertising measurement

We use site analytics to understand traffic, popular pages, conversions, sharing activity, and site performance. We may also use advertising measurement technology, including the Meta Pixel, to understand whether an advertisement led to a visit, Daily Joke signup, or confirmed subscription and to improve advertising performance.

Advertising platforms may receive technical information from your browser such as page visits, referral or campaign information, browser/device information, and conversion events. AnimalJokes.com does not send the email address, pet preferences, or address entered into the Daily Joke form through the Meta Pixel or site analytics.

You can limit certain advertising tracking through browser settings and the privacy or advertising controls offered by the relevant advertising platform.

Site infrastructure

The site uses third-party infrastructure providers for hosting, database services, email delivery, analytics, advertising measurement, and related technical operations. Those providers may process limited technical data required to deliver, secure, and measure the service.

Data retention and security

We retain subscription and submission records as reasonably needed for operations, moderation, rights documentation, compliance, security, and recordkeeping. Short-term security metadata follows the retention approach described above. Analytics and advertising providers may retain measurement data according to their own policies. We use access controls and managed infrastructure intended to protect stored data, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
